SPS 2008: Symposium on Software Defined and Cognitive Radios

Thanks to the rapidly evolving capabilities of digital electronics, software defined radios (SDR) become a reality. Hardware is replaced to a large extent by software offering therefore a high level of reconfigurability and adaptivity to the system. Cognitive radios (CR) are seen as a natural enhancement of SDR, wherein the radio senses and is aware of its operational environment, and is capable of following complex strategies to dynamically and autonomously adapt its operating parameters.

The symposium will provide a platform for information exchange and discussion on topics related to CR. It is composed of two tutorials and eight presentations.

Building Networks for a Brighter Future, the First International Conference on Infrastructure Systems

Infrastructures provide essential functions for economy and society such as transportation, water, communication and energy. While each of these sectors has their own specific characteristics, they have much in common: their adequate operation depends on the effectiveness and interplay of complex physical and institutional or actor networks. The complexity of the infrastructure systems requires scientists of different disciplines to join forces to develop and test theories, models and tools to ensure that the infrastructures of the future will function at their full potential. While many other meetings are sector-specific and narrow in focus, this conference offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gaps across disciplines and sectors, and to build cross-cutting networks to effectively steer infrastructure developments towards a more sustainable and secure future.

The first edition of IEMC-Europe, "Managing Engineering, Technology and Innovation for Growth"

Engineering is the art of science; it transforms abstract concepts into useful technology and, as such, preserves and expands human knowledge. On the other hand, knowledge is expressed by action and work and these, together with technology, provide adding value. As such, engineering becomes perhaps the most important vehicle for value creation. To achieve this goal we need the contributions of engineers, managers and economists. Furthermore, we need the views of professionals, researchers, students and professors. It is this forum that IEEE-TMC gathers for its conferences, a tradition that will be conserved in this new conferences series. This conference therefore is also a great opportunity to meet more of your fellow TMC members from Europe, as well as from the rest of the world of course.
